Artist Statement:
As a contemporary sculptor, I am deeply concerned with the human form and the relationship between man and nature. My sculptures show people characterized by a combination of individualism and typification and hence express existential questions. In the process of creation I move through a moderately expressive and material-oriented surface treatment that emphasizes the complexity and uniqueness of the human being.

I consider the wooden sculpture a medium that has a special meaning for humans. Wood is a living material bears its own history and complexity. Working with wood, I keep discovering new nuances and layers that the material has in store for me. The warmth and softness of the material, the natural grain and structure, its unmistakable color and scent, all this inspires me and gives my sculptures a special expressiveness.

But my sculptures are not only an exploration of the material and the human form. They are also meant to make observers think and offer them new perspective on life and the world around us. I believe that art has the ability to touch people on a deep, spiritual level and connect them to their own inner being. My sculptures show the effect of the auratic and the spiritual and carry primordial as well as contemporary issues within them.

As an artist, I see it as my mission to explore the complex relationship between man and nature, and to blur the lines between the physical and the spiritual. My sculptures are an expression of this search and should encourage the viewer to see the world around us with different eyes.
