• The iconic cypress trees in the Villa d'Este park were among the most popular subjects for 19th-century painters on their Grand Tour of Italy.
• During his trips to Italy, Kanoldt found the most beautiful motifs he rendered in heroic landscape paintings.
• In 1876, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Art in Karlsruhe.
