Rare and complete copy with text and atlas. - De Guignes (1759-1845), son of Joseph de Guignes, probably the most important European sinologist in his days, was consule of France in Canton and accompanied the Dutch mission to Beijing in 1794-95, which was headed by Titzing. - The nice coppers, partly with two depictions, show Chinese ceremonies, buildings, bridges, landscapes, art monuments, various types of boats, tools, plants, notes and others. Also with maps and plans of China, Macao, the Philipines and the Manilay Bay. - With isolated minor stains only, folding map with tear in the folding. Spine ends and joints slightly rubbed in places, spine slightly discoloured. Fine and clean copy in a decorative contemp. binding. - Ex-libris.
First edition, complete copy with both text and atlas. 60 engr. plates and 6 (3 folding) engr. maps. Contemp. half calf with gilt decoration on spine. - Only here and there with stains, folding maps with tear to fold. Extremities of spine and joints partly slightly rubbed, spines slightly discoloured. Fine and clean copy in decorative contemp. bindings. Bookplates.
