Renouard/Moreau 246, 143. - Fairfax Murray 362 (with illstration of title). - Brunet III, 1504. - First and only French edition. - The date has been set by Renouard/Moreau on the basis of the printer's device. Translated from the manuscript by S. de Mamerot in 1458. The chronic was continued by E. Verneron up until 1362 after the author's death in 1278, and was increased by J. Castel, J. de Montreuil, R. Gaguin and J. de Troyes in the 15th century. "Das verbreitetste Geschichtsbuch des spätern Mittelalters" [transl.:"the most widely used history book of the middle ages."] (Wetzer/W. VIII, 934). The figurative and grotesque woodcut initials are worthwhile mentioning. - Copy thoroughly restored by the French book binder Hippolite Duru in a magnificenteinem binding from the collection of the baron Achille Seillière. His crest is shown in Olivier/Hermal 1189; cf. also ibidem 1130 on his biography. - Genealogy cropped close at sides, second part with stamp of a Bendedictine convent. Binding slightly scraped in places. All in all splendid copy.
First and only French edition of the chronicle, widespread in the Middle-Ages and the main source for the knowledge of the theologians during centuries. Of special importance for the legend of Pope Joan. 2 parts in 1 vol. Duru. The genealogical tree cropped close, second title with old stamp of a Bendedictine convent. Binding slightly rubbed. Splendid copy from the collection of Baron Achille Seillière (1813-73).
