Nissen 3218; Ferchl. p. 419; Schelenz p. 499; Mueller, Kaffee p. 169; Arents, Tobacco Suppl. 548 and Hunt 391 (each french orig. edition 1694). - Rare second German edition of this "first handbook of Pharmacognosy " (Ferchl). The Parisian pharmacist Pierre Pomet (1658-99) collected various drugs and pharmaceuticals on his journeys and published his findings in this work. The three parts contain: Von Vegetabilien, Von Thieren and Von den Fossilien . - The fine copper plates, most of them with several depictions, show herbs, seeds and fruits, shrubs, trees etc., also animals (amongst them whales, elephants, unicorns, walrus, deer, camel, birds, fish, sirenia, turtles etc.), various fossils as well as depictions of several professions such as silkworm breeding, sugar cane and tobacco harvest, mummification in Egypt, beekeeping and fishing. - Text evenly faintly browned in places, last 8 ll. with small wormtrack in the white margin. Upper spine end with small blemish. All in all fine and well-preserved copy.
