Justinianus, Institutiones. Mit der Glossa ordinaria des Franciscus Accursius. Leaf a2 with large miniature painting (handing over the book of laws to the emperor), 2 large color initials on gilt ground with tendrils, three-side border in colors of leaves, blossoms and birds (owl, bullfinch), additionally with 197 initials over two or three lines in gold on color ground throughout the text . At the end with fine woodcut printer's device on gilt ground . Turin, Jacobinus Suigus, 21 Apri,l 1488. 16th century vellum. 4to. 118 (of 120) unnumb. ll. (last blank). Gothic type. 2 columns, text surrounded by commentary. 46-48 and 62-63 lines.

GW 7619. - Hain 9520. - Goff J-531 (just 1 copy). - BSB C-653. - Husung, Druckerzeichen 106. - Not in BMC. - Very rare Turin edition , no copy in ABPC and in JAP. This one the one mentioned in GW, vol. VII (2nd edition, 1968), magnificently illuminated copy of the Earls of Solms-Hohensolms-Laubach (stamp on verso of l. a2); the updated online version of the GW has meanwhile deleted this note. - Very nice scholio print in red and black with numerous decorative initials in gold and colors drawn in. - Lacking the two ll. a1 and a8, the latter mended by a late 16th or early 17th century hand. - With waterstains in places and isolated stains (first ll. more obvious), illumination of opening page somewhat rubbed in places.
