"The third edition was extensively altered, and is of interest for the addition of a table of differences between it and the second edition, a table which occurs in each subsequent edition, and also for the addition of the historical sketch. This sketch .. was written to satisfy complaints that Darwin had not sufficiently considered his predecessors in the general theory of evolution .." (Freeman S. 78). - Wenige Bll. minim. fleckig, 1 Bl. mit Randeinriß, 1 Bl. mit schmalem Staubrand, Titel mit hs. Besitzvermerk "John G. Wilton, Oct. 1861". Vorsätze erneuert, Kapitale gering bestoßen. Guterhaltenes und sauberes Exemplar im originalen Verlagseinband.

Third edition of this scientific milestone, extensively altered by Darwin and with the first appearance of the complete historical sketch. With folding lithogr. table and publisher's adds (1 leaf) at end. Original green blind- and giltstamped cloth. - Few leaves minim. soiled, 1 leaf with marginal tear, 1 leaf with small duststain at margin. Endpapers renewed, spine ends trifle rubbed. Besides this small defects a fine copy, title with contemp. inscription "John G. Wilton, Oct. 1861".
