Erste Ausgabe des wichtigen Malerbuches. - Eines der sehr seltenen Exemplare auf "papier d'emballage", nur diese 15 Exemplare wurden auf dem für Jean Dubuffet und der Art brut typischen Packpapier gedruckt (Numerierung abweichend). - "Jean Dubuffet was the most important and outspoken French artist of the postwar era. A man of uncompromising ideas, his art is linked to the concept he himself originated, art brut, which denotes a spontaneous, unconscious, and anti-artistic quality. His art ranges from expressionistic figuration to abstraction of a severe and very conceptual form. Versatile in painting, drawing and sculpture, Dubuffet was an accomplished printmaker who produced a considerable number of artist's books." (Logan Coll. 147)

First edition of this rare artist's book, one of only 15 copies printed on simple packing paper so characteristic for Jean Dubuffet and hist "Art brut" publications. With lithogr. text and 59 (16 fullpage) orig. lithographs by J. Dubuffet. Contemp. red half calf with gilt title on spine. - Upper margin partly cropped close, 2 leaves with small defects in the gutter caused by the tight binding. Front hinge slightly shaken. Overall clean copy of the scarce work.
