Erste Ausgabe dieses illustrierten Katalogs der berühmten und vielbesuchten naturhistorischen Sammlung des Grafen Moscardo. Kurioses Werk über Naturalien und Altertümer.
Die Sammlung des Veroneser Adeligen Moscardo war besonders reich an antiquarischen Objekten. Sie umfaßte u. a. große Teile der früheren Calceolari-Sammlung. Moscardo widmete der Entstehung seiner Wunderkammer über 30 Jahre seines Lebens. Der Katalog gliedert sich in drei Abschnitte: Der erste behandelt Antiquitäten, Inschriften, Amulette und Statuen, der zweite Mineralien und Fossilien, der dritte Korallen, Muscheln, Meerestiere, Tiere, Früchte und Pflanzen. Die Randnotizen in Moscardos Quellen lassen darauf schließen, daß ihm eine umfangreiche, aktuelle Bibliothek zur Verfügung stand, obwohl ein Großteil der Klassifizierung auf den Werken von Plinius und Dioskurides basiert. Der Katalog ist eines der bemerkenswertesten Beispiele seiner Art.

R., Titel mit hinterl. Randeinriß, letztes Textblatt mit längerem Randeinriß, fliegende Vorsätze entfernt. Bezugspapier stärker beschabt und an den Pergamentecken eingerissen. - PROVENIENZ: Innendeckel mit Besitzeintrag des irischen Politikers Graf George Noble Plunkett (1851-1948), dat. 1910.

First edition of this illustrated catalog of the famous and much-visited natural history collection of Count Moscardo. A curious work on natural history specimens and antiquities. With 113 engraved text illustrations. Contemp. half vellum. 31 : 20.5 cm. - Without the copper title. Heavily waterstained throughout, the last ca. 20 leaves with a faint color stain in the white margin, title with small backed marginal tear, last leaf with long tear, flying endpapers removed. Cover paper heavily scraped and torn at the parchment corners.
