Excellent season kick off
Bidder rush makes for outstanding half-yearly figures
Munich, 29. June 2010, (kk) - € 12 million* is the excellent result of Ketterer Kunst’s 2010 spring auctions. "If the quality is right, collectors are willing to invest large sums. This was also confirmed by the increase of new customers and their willingness to buy art, in order to add it to their investment portfolio", said Robert Ketterer, auctioneer and owner of Ketterer Kunst.

Robert_Ketterer_versteigert_Muenters_Staffelsee.jpg Succesful start into the season: Robert Ketterer auctions off three works by Gabriele Münter with TOP results, this one is a Staffelsee motif from 1934.

Auctions of Art of the 20th and 21st century alone made for proceeds above € 9 million*, some € 3 million* more than last year. Besides top lots by Gabriele Münter (e.g. "Landschaft mit Sonnenblumen", proceeds: € 390.000*), Wladimir Georgiewitsch von Bechtejeff ("Reptilien", proceeds € 378 000*) and Günther Uecker ("Feld ("Haut")", proceeds € 354 000* as well as "Spirale", proceeds: € 171 000*), other works, for instance by Ernst Barlach, Erich Buchholz, Otto Dill, Josef Eberz, Jörg Immendorff, Alexej von Jawlensky, Diego Giacometti, Gotthard Graubner, Otto Griebel, Paul Jenkins, Béla Kádár, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Fritz Koenig, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Emil Nolde, Anita Rée, Auguste Rodin, Christian Rohlfs, Arnold Topp and HP Zimmer also realized excellent increases.

The section of Old Masters and Art of the 19th century is now brought to auction twice a year instead of four times a year, which made for a soaring demand. Along with Hendrik Willem Mesdag‘s "Die Rückkehr der Fischer" (proceeds: € 144 000*), works by Friedrich Gille and Carl Blechen also realized strong increases. In the magazine "Weltkunst" Florian Illies spoke about a "remarkable auction of studies in oil", in which a "masterly study of a weathered trunk" (proceeds: € 90 000*) presumably provided a new record result for German 19th century studies in oil.

With overall proceeds of around € 1 3 million*, the section of Rare Books - Manuscripts - Autographs - Decorative Prints is very content. "This result matches the figures of both last year’s auctions, it even shows a slight upward trend. Our well-established concept of the exclusive Evening Auction definitely contributes to this succes", said head of the department Christoph Calaminus. "The so-called Silent Auction also experiences more and more approval. This way we can meet our customers‘ bidding preferences and we can focus on the main auction, which has a positive effect on the results", continues Calaminus.
