Stillleben mit Früchten, Hummer und Musikinstrumenten. 1st half of 18th century.
Mackled. - Good overall impression, colours still fresh. Edges minimally rubbed, due to thre framing. Smaller retouchings to the glasses, fruits and the note sheet.
Oil on canvas.
75,5 : 106 cm (29,7 : 41,7 in). Magnificent depiction, the style connects to the Flamish still lifes from the generation before Jan Davidsz de Heem. Other painters of the Antwerp School, such as Osias Beert the Elder and Clara Peeters, also depicted woven baskets and fruits in their so-called breakfast still lifes. Depictions of music instruments are rather rare in those days. The unusual motif and the poised lighting make this work a special example of Flamish still life paintings. [AS]
