Amsterdam 1843. Dark green contemp. morocco with rich Roccaille board and gilt spine, gilt inside borders as well as gilt edges. Large folio. 35 unnumb. ll.Unique copy of an oriental narration with hand-written text in Dutch in blue, brown, red and gold. Text area with double bordering lines in blue and red. Most of the fine initials are accompanied by small botanic, landscape or figurative illustrations. Made by H. I. C. Nouhuys for his aunt M. A. Besseling with a dedication in four lines in verse. Texts versified (most in 4 to 8 lines). - 2 plates and endpapers foxed. Bindings slightly rubbed, lower spine end somewhat torn. - Lavishly made private work in a remarkably splendid binding.
