PROVENANCE: Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia (since 1997, acuired from White Cube, Dukt Street, London).
EXHIBITION: Ashley Bickerton. Four Pillars, White Cube, Dukt Street, London, June 6 - July 5, 1997.
In the exhibition, Ashley Bickerton explores four important aspects of Western art history: self-portrait, nude, crucifixion, and patronage. "These provocative paintings depict life-size figures with great attention to detail. Bickerton uses pencil, acrylic, and oil paint on wooden panels to create these exquisite, meticulously hyperreal paintings, images reminiscent of the graphic brilliance of 15th-century Northern European painting. With these images, the artist provided a poignant commentary on the longevity of the relationships between money, religion, sex, and narcissism." (Quoted from: https://www.whitecube.com/gallery-exhibitions/four-pillars)
In good condition. A small superficial scratch in the paint in the top right of the center panel. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of an ultraviolet light and to the best of knowledge.
