Männer ohne Frauen - Parsifal. 1994.
Oil on paper.
With the monogram in ligature in lower right. 139.5 x 105.8 cm (54.9 x 41.6 in), the full sheet.
[AR].
• Large-format, highly abstracted portrait from the well-known Parsifal series.
• Named after the opera of the same name by Richard Wagner, the series shows variations of a man's face, often in tears.
• Between abstraction and figuration; despite the simplification of the form, the full-length face and its expression remain recognizable.
• Offered on the international auction market (source: artprice.com) for the first time.
The authenticity of the present work was confirmed orally by the Markus Lüpertz studio. We would like to thank them for their kind information.
PROVENANCE: Private collection North-Rhine Westphalia.
From 1992, Markus Lüpertz devoted himself to the depiction of faces in his extensive series of works "Männer ohne Frauen - Parsifal", which he reproduced in different techniques and dimensions and on different supports, but always en face. They can be lined up like in a gallery of ancestors; even in the most abstract form of representation, the motif always remains recognizable. [ST]
In good condition. With creases along the margins, overall hardly noticeable, as well as with isolated tiny marginal tears (approx. 0.5 - max. 1 cm). Some of the colors slightly bleeding, especially the black and green.
