PROVENANCE: Private collection Hamburg.
The notable artist captured the two different types of ships that encounter at sea with great poise and in intensive coloring. The schooner in the foreground has already close reefed sails, the smoke from the small steamers chimney is pressed down horizontally. The artist's knowledge of sailing becomes quite obvious in this work.
