• "Ich im Westen" is a clear reference to A.R.Penck's own background as he was expatriated by the GDR in 1980.
• In 1972, 1982 and 1992 Penck showed works at the documenta in Kassel, in 1984 he participated in the Venice Biennial.
• A. R. Penck's works are at, among others, theMuseum of Modern Art, New York, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, and the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven.
