• A landscape impression in a large format, rendered with a confident stroke and beautifully accentuated color nuances.
• Color chalk drawings are a rarity in Heckel's oeuvre. Especially in his later years, Heckel captured the landscape almost exclusively in watercolor.
• Heckel and his wife Siddi traveled to the south of France in August 1929, first via Burgundy to Provence and the Côte d'Azur, then to the Pyrenees and the Atlantic coast.

The work is registered in the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs. Renate Ebner and Mr. Hans Geissler for their kind support in cataloging this lot.

In very fine condition. Evenly minimally browned and with occasional faint creases and rubbed spots, primarily in the margins. Upper right edge with a very tiny paper loss.
