Important work on ship insurances (Bodmerei), loans of the ship and cargo owners, average and many more, was fundamental for the English insurance industry. The Hamburg merchant Nicolaus Magens was working in London for many years and was authorised by the Hamburg senate to lead negotiations with England regarding several captured ships. - Title with small blindstamp and old ownership entry "B. Avé-Lallemant", Book block slightly broken. Binding rubbed and bumped, spine ends with small defects, spine discoloured. - Al in all fine and almost stainless broad-margined copy by the Hamburg printer Conrad König.
First German edition, first English edition in 1755, of the important work on ship insurances, fundamental for the English insurance industry in those days. With 2 large engr. vignettes. Contemp. dark red calf with giltstamped borders on front board, rich gilt spine and gauffered gilt edges. - Title with small blindstamp and old ownership entry "B. Avé-Lallemant", book block slightly broken. Binding rubbed and bumped, spine ends with small defects, spine discoloured, else fine and almost stainless broad-margined copy.
