The shet used to be part of the collection of Johannes Gachnang, director of the Kunsthalle Bern from 1974 to 1982, and member of the board of documenta 7 in Kassel from 1980 to 1982. [EH].
• From the Johannes Gachnang Collection.
• Through the balance of object of form, Markus Lüpertz attained his characteristic abstract-representational pictorial language.
• Markus Lüpertz was a key figure of German post-war art.
• The year the work was made he refused to participate in the Venice Biennale, however, he did take part in documenta 7 in Kassel two years later.
This work's authenticity was kindly confirmed orally by the Atelier Markus Lüpertz. We are grateful for the kind support in cataloging this lot.
