Moritz & Joh. A. Endter Söhne 1682. Contemp. leather on bands with label and richly blindtooled on spine and giltstamped armorial centrepiece. VD 17, 12:130131B. - Graesse V, 246 and VII 275. - Sabin 102615. - ADB XLI, 687 ff. – First complete edition. Lavishly printed and illustratively decorated collection. Comprises the famous Tabula Peutingeriana (copy of a Roman world map, made in the 12th century and first released by Welser in 1591), rendered in 12 nice copper maps. Also comprising writings about the history of Augsburg, the history of Bavaria and accounts of saints, among them Welser’s Rerum Boicarum libri quinque (pp. 1-176), which was first published in 1602, counting among the first critical works on the history of Bavaria (cf. Lentner II, 4496). – The maps show Venezuela, Würtemberg-southern Bavaria, France, Spain and Italy. - "The American interest lies in the Vita of the author which includes an account of his family, the merchant house of Welser. Under authority from Charles V. they governed Venezuela for their own profit from 1528-1555" (Sabin). – With 26 ll. With typographic figures printed in red and black. - This copy is a print variant (of two) with the potrait Viri Illustris, Marci Velseri, vita (verso) – Front board with isolated traces of scraping. Fine copy.
First complete edition, contains the famous Tabula Peutingeriana. Finely illustrated with engr. frontispiece, engr. portrait, 51 partly double-page engravings in text (of which 14 maps), 2 double-page engr. maps, 16 engr. vignettes and 1 engr. initial. Contemp. calf on raised bands with richly blindtooled spine, label on spine and gilt armorial centrepiece. - Some scratches to boards, else very fine copy.
