Weltkarte. - Mercator. Orbis terrae compendiosa descriptio. Kolor. Kupferstich nach G. Mercator bei R. Mercator, Duisburg 1595. 29 : 52,5 cm.
Die schöne Weltkarte von G. Mercator zeigt die Welt in zwei Hemisphären umgeben von reichem Beschlagwerkornamenten, in den Zwickeln mit kl. Armillarsphäre und Windrose. Aus der ersten Ausgabe des Atlas 1595-1602, mit latein. Rückentext ohne Bogensignatur, und vier Spalten Text De mundi creatione (mit 17 Zeilen in der ersten Spalte) auf der Vorderseite unterhalb der Karte. Ein kleiner Riß in der Platte ist oben links im Titelschriftfeld bereits schwach zu erkennen. - "A model of clarity and neatness .. The original map plate was unchanged throughout." (Shirley) - Rechter Rand bis in die Platte beschnitten und angerändert, die Einfassungslinie nachgedruckt u. koloriert. Mittelfalte oben leicht leimschattig bis auf Höhe der Armillarsphäre, unten mit kl. Einriß. Zwei kl. Wurmlöcher im unt. Rand im Text.

Beautiful world map in two hemispheres by G. Mercator, from the first edition of his "Atlas" 1595-1602. With latin text on verso, but no signature, and four columns of text "De mundi creazione" beneath the map. - Right margin trimmed and remargined with the neatline reprinted and colored. Centrefold slightly gluestained at the top and with small tear at the bottom, with two small wormholes in the lower margin in the text.
