VD 17 3:601589X and 1:0095530T. - Cf. Weller II, 19. - Cf. Goldsmith I 101 and C. Menger-Bibl. col 594. - First German edition of the important work on 17th century constitutional law; extremely rare. – The French original was published two years earlier in Paris under the title “Interets et maximes des princes & des etats souverains“ with fictitious place of printing, this first German edition does entirely without indications of place of printing and publisher. According to an entry in the Bibliotheque Nationale (cf. VD 17), the text was initially ascribed to duke Henri de Rohan (1579-1638), however, the actual author was most likely Gatien Courtilz de Sandras (1644-1712), who became famous later on for his “Memoires de M. d’Artagnan“, which served as a model for Dumas‘ The Three Musketeers. – The two writings cover European state systems, and the claoims to power of various royal houses, amongst them the Recht des Groß-Türcken an Persien, Meden und Barnagasso, Recht der Araber an den Orientalische Indien, Africa und Spanien, as well as the Recht des Kaysers an China und seinen Nachbarn. – The nice title copper shows 8 different regents congregating at a round table, all enforcing their claim to the crown situated in the centre of the table. – 1 title with small marginal cut, rear flying endpaper removed. Nice, well-preserved copy.
