Just as it is the case with this sheet, Scherer was decisively influenced by the expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, whom he assisted in the organization of his exhibition in the Kunsthalle Basel in summer 1923. After he had been invited to Frauenkirch near Davos, an intensive friendship developed between the two of them and Hermann Scherer spent a lot of time in Frauenkirch henceforth, making drawings, paintings, woodcuts and especially wooden sculptures, all showing his friend‘s immediate influence.
