• In 1910 Heckel became intensively occupied with variety show motifs.
• His later wife Milda Frieda Georgi, artist name Sidi Riha, piqued his interest in this world .
• The work shows the American tightrope walkers "Millman-Trio", who had performances in Dresden and Berlin in 1909/10.
• The same year Heckel also made a large-size oil painting of this motif (cf. Vogt 10/7).

The work is registered in the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs Renate Ebner and Mr Hans Geissler for the kind support in cataloging this lot.
