Otto von Wätjen lived in Paris for almost ten years as of 1905. He resided in the artist districts of Montmartre and Montparnasse and is a regular in the legendary Café du Dôme, a meeting place for German artists. At this tie Wätjen preferred portraits of women and of cabaret scenes with dancers and bar girls. Because of World War I he went to Spain in 1914 and returned to his hometown Düsseldorf in 1918. In the early 1920s he returned to Paris, where he lived and worked until hid death in 1942. [CB].
