With monogram "M" as well as name, number and foundry mark "Blanchet Fondeur" on verso. From an edition of 20 copies. 29 x 22,5 x 7 cm (11,4 x 8,8 x 2,7 in).

In 1977 the Galerie Artcurial in Paris organized a state art exhibition. In preparation of this exhibition the nephew of the then French president François Mitterrand noticed the works by Mitoraj and chose them for the exhibition. In order to prepare his works, the artist went to Pietrasanta, a center of bronze casters and marble in Tuscany. There he made 120 sculptures and drawings that were shown in solo exhibitions world-wide over the following years. His mostly gigantic sculptures can be found in prominent squares all over the world. Mitoraj's interpretation of antiquity in combination with accents of Modernism has become his trademark. This sculpture clearly has features of the monumentality of his oeuvre. [DB]
