• In 2009, the artist created, among other things, two printing plates with similar motifs: one was published as an edition in the artist portfolio to support the Obama Victory Fund (alongside works by Jasper Johns, Elsworth Kelly, Richard Serra and others), the present edition offered here for the Deutsche Guggenheim.
• The expression "grey area" describes an indefinite state, a transitional state in which things cannot be clearly defined - which also applies to the artist’s enigmatic, complex compositions.
• In 2019/20, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Art and others showed comprehensive retrospective exhibitions of her work.
• The artist is represented in important museums like the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
• In 2012, Mehretu was represented at documenta 13 in Kassel and in 2019 at the 58th Venice Biennale.
• Mehretu's large-scale paintings, drawings and prints showcase her signature creative process, a unique technique of layered, overlapping drawings that draw inspiration from cityscapes and architecture, addressing geographic and social histories and forms.
• Mehretu is represented by the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York and by the White Cube Gallery in London
.

"My pictures work like a palimpsest or a notebook. The tremenduous flood of information flows into a picture that consists of very many levels of experience."
Julie Mehretu in a talk with Gesine Borcherdt, 2012, quoted from: Welt am Sonntag, August 5, 2012, p. 46.
