"I chose geometry for its neutrality, the system, in order to confine the arbitrariness of my decisions. This was the best way to distance myself from the romantic attitude that ran rampant in the 1950s. Which, however, did not stop me from developing a liking for certain artists of the Ècole de Paris, such as Wols and Fautrier."
