Marburger Relief - Teil 5. 1963/64.
Bronze with black-brown patina.
Breicha 261. Unique cast. 164 x 77 x 20 cm (64.5 x 30.3 x 7.8 in).
The bronze was cast at the same time as the relief series was made. A unique bronze was merely made from the first part, too.
This is the only cast of the draft model, patinated by the hand of the artist.
PROVENANCE: Erker-Galerie, St. Gallen.
Private collection (acquired from aforementioned in the 1990s).
"My first drawings were copies of figures. I recall that my earliest impressions were evoked by stone and bronze figures and not by human beings of flesh and blood. I did not care for motion, was even disgusted by grimaces. I felt attracted by the firm and rigid, something that does not soften by the pressure of the hand; today I'd say that I developed a pasion for statues, for the hard and inflexible matter from an early point on. It gave me more satisfaction that any mock imitation of life."
