• Along with "Theben, West" (Tate Modern, London/Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam) and other works, the photographs were made on Gursky's journey through Egypt in 1992/93.
• One of the world's most successful contemporary photographers and probably the most famous repesentative of the Düsseldorf Photo School under Bernd Becher.
