• Kirkeby's art is inspired by nature and conveys atmospherically dense landscape impressions.
• In the exhibition "Wildnis" the Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt a. M. (2018), presented Kirkeby's works along with works by Max Ernst, Henri Rousseau, Giorgia O`Keeffe and Gerhard Richter.
• The artist had solos hows at, among others, the Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2002/03), Tate Modern, London, (2009), the Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf (2009/10) and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk (2020).
