Artist Statement:
In the face of the 'perpetual recurrence of the ever same', do not all statements about contemporary painting become invalid? Can art remain 'free' from actual circumstances, or is it even imperative? It can if I, as an artist, want and can. My painting is about the possibility of keeping the canvas free from clarity, transparency and obviousness. Painterly processes have a lasting effect in the indefinite. Forms, levels, gradients result in views, create possibilities of 'view' without being fixed. I pursue an aesthetic of the unpredictable, as changeable as life, by using painterly means. My painting seduces, evokes strong feelings, to let go of limitations, to feel. My goal is to evoke timelessness, while still attaining an authentic independence in painting. In this way, the 'perpetual recurrence of the ever same' can continue on ever new paths.
