• From Meese's best creative period around the turn of the millennium, when he established his characteristic style with impasto painting and the combination of text and image.
• Since 1998, Meese has been represented by CFA Berlin, and became the celebrated enfant terrible of the up-and-coming Berlin art scene in the years that followed.
• In the 2000s, Meese intensively explored fictional film heroes, negative or tragic historical figures and his own artistic personality in the form of provocative role portraits.
• "The Oil Sheriff of Japan" - a masterful fusion of autobiographical, historical and fictional references that create a fantastic portrait characterized by a fascinating lightness.
• A similar portrait is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
