Rare collection in a lavishly made album. The nice photographies by Dimitri N. Ermakov (1846-1916) show men and women in their costumes and also in their churchgoing outfit, with their families or as couples. Some with firearms, music instruments, pottery, books, carts, at work, building a house, with company and while hunting. - Some photos carry the embossed signet of Ermakov in Cyrillic letters, also with another signet, designed by Ermakov and the artist Koltschin later. This signet by both artist is on verso of the photographies which are mounted on strong cardboard and show a Lyra with a colour palette, framed by various medals that stand for the awards which the two photographers received in international competitions for their works (dated, among others, 1874 and 79). - Some photographs with inscriptions, e. g. "Grusinierin", "Sechs Männer aus Gori", "Armenierin" or "Zwei Mullas" on the rear. - Photographies partly slightly faded, only a few tuck-in flaps with marginal tears (1 rebacked), 2 small corner decorations on front board removed, upper spine end chipped, lower spine end with defective.
Scarce collection in a remarkable binding. 76 orig. portrait- and subject fotografs in cabinet- and carte-de visite size. Half calf with oak board and a broad metal clasp, front board with carve relief showing 2 bears.
