Bei der Empfängerin handelt es sich um die damals dreizehnjährige belgische Prinzessin Charlotte-Amélie (1840-1927), der späteren Gemahlin von Maximilian, dem Kaiser von Mexiko. Edmund Lear hatte 1846 mit seinem Werk Illustrated excursions in Italy die Aufmerksamkeit der Königin erregt und wurde von ihr daraufhin als Zeichenlehrer engagiert. - Mod. Exlibris unterhalb der Widmung.

Binding shaken. - With autograph dedication of Queen Victoria to princess Charlotte-Amélie, wife of Maximlian, emperor of Mexico.
