Next to Paul Baum, Curt Herrmann is one of the most important painters of Divisionism, which plays a rather small rolle in German late Impressionsm at the beginning of the 20th century. Despite that, the bold colouring that Hermann's oeuvre shows is even more remarkable. Inspired by Seurat, but also by Van de Velde and Rysselberghe, he tries to join the conclusions of Divisionism in his own interpretation by means of his strongly gestural style. Herrmann is a wanderer between worlds, both in terms of his technique as well as in terms of his cunning color compositions. [KD]
