Geschätzte griechisch-lateinische Parallelausgabe der Odyssee in der Bearbeitung von Hubert van Giffen (Obertus Giphanius; 1534-1604), in einem schön dekorierten, zeitgenössischen Schweinsledereinband.
Erschien ab 1572 in mindestens 5, meist undatierten, Varianten (vgl. Druckermarke nach Heitz, Elsässische Büchermarken, Taf. XXXI, 10). - Der schöne Einband zeigt auf der vorderen Mittelplatte die Grundtugenden des Christentums: Fides, Spes, Caritas und Patientia; rückseitig werden die Kardinalstugenden dargestellt: Justitia, Prudentia, Fortitudo und Temperantia. Beide Mittelplatten sind von einer Rolle mit Herrscherköpfen eingefaßt.
EINBAND: Blindgeprägter Schweinslederband d. Zt. über Holzdeckeln mit Rollen- und Plattenstempeln und 2 Messing-Schließen. 8vo. 17,5 : 11 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit Druckermarke auf dem Titel. - KOLLATION: 827 S., 26 Bll. - ZUSTAND: Vord. flieg. Vorsatz entfernt, vord. Innengelenk mit weißem Papierstreifen verstärkt. RDeckel und untere Einbandkanten berieben.

Back cover and lower edges of cover rubbed.
