Willem Janszoon Blaeu

Willem Janszoon Blaeu was born in Alkmaar in 1571. From 1594 to 1596 Blaeu was taught astronomy and cartography by his teacher Tycho Brahe. In 1603 the scholar moved to Amsterdam. Blaeu began to produce globes, maps, nautical charts as well as a world map, which was published in 1605. Blaeu was appointed the Dutch East India Company's official cartographer in 1633. Blaeu died in Amsterdam in 1638.
