The lyricist and writer Georg Trakl was born in Salzburg on 3, February, 1887. His parents were the ironmonger Tobias Trakl and his wife Maria Catharina, born Halik. Trakl already started to write poems at the age of 13. He initially moved to Vienna to study pharmacy in 1908. The artist then began to publish his poems. Other fields of interest included music, painting and architecture. In 1912, he also served as a pharmacist at a military hospital in Innsbruck for some time. Trakl's most important poems were created between 1910 and 1914. The poem "Vorstadt im Föhn" was published in 1912. In 1913 the publisher Kurt Wolff released Trakl's anthology of poetry "Der jüngste Tag". On the outbreak of World War I, Trakl enlisted in the army and was sent to the East Front in Godek (Galicia) as a medical official. Georg Trakl committed suicide in Krakow on 3 November, 1914.
