Theodor de Bry (1528-1598), Dutch goldsmith and engraver, had to leave his home town Liège in 1570 due to his reformational beliefs. He opened a book and art store in Frankfurt am Main which he successfully ran with his two sons Johann Israel and Johann Theodor de Bry. A trip to England around 1586-1588 served as inspiration for his main work, the Collectiones peregrinationum in Indiam orientalem et Indiam occidentalem. The work was only finished by his sons after Theodor de Bry's death and was published in several editions in various languages.
