Signed and dated “95” on the reverse. Signed and dated ‘98’ as well as typographically titled “LARA” on a separate label. 49.7 x 34 x 8.7 cm (19.5 x 13.3 x 3.4 in).
• A unique piece from the famous “Portraits” series.
• Through his unique color combinations and brushwork, Knoebel imbues the three-dimensional wooden form with a “painterly quality” and individual character.
• Knoebel took the stylization of the human portrait head, as originated in Jawlensky’s “Meditations,” to its extreme in this series.
• Imi Knoebel participated in documenta 5, 6, 7, and 8.
