• Privately-owned for almost 40 years.
• As of the late 1920s, Heckel put increasing focus on landscape depictions, both in Germany and on journeys through Europe.
• Around 1934 the artist made a few watercolors and oil paintings of the hilly landscape of the Rhön mountains which are quite distinct from his expressionist creations. This work offered here is part of this group of works.
The work is registered at the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs Renate Ebner and Mr Hans Geissler for the kind support in cataloging this lot.
