Beer. - Complete and well-preserved copies of Dapper's geographic main works. "He was a Dutch physician and scholar devoted to geographical and historical studies. His works are of especial importance because of the fine plates, which include maps, plans, beautiful views and costumes" (Blackmer). - The coppers, rich in detail, show views of Aden, Bagdad, Ephesus, Isfahan, Khom, Mokka, Smyrna, Vishnapur et al, also with plants and animals, costumes, cult objects, godheads. - Slightly browned in places, title of I with small old armorial stamp as well as an erased stamp on verso.
First German editions of Dapper's major geographical works (2 in 1 vol.). I: With engr. frontispiece, 3 double-page engr. maps, 21 copperplates (14 double-page) and 8 half-page text engravings. - II: Engr. frontispiece, 4 double-page engr. maps, 38 copperplates (11 double-page) and 10 half-page text engravings. Contemp. vellum. - Minor browning in places, title of I with small heraldic stamp on recto and erased stamp on verso. Fine and complete copy.
