With remains of an old label from the 1905 spring exhibition of the Hamburg Kunstverein on verso, with inscription "..Caulier".
The Hamburg orient painter Caulier was active around 1900, he found inspiration for his paintings on his extensive journeys. He lived in Chile for some time (cf.: Der Neue Rump, Lexikon der bildenden Künste Hamburgs, Altonas und der näheren Umgebung, Neumünster 2005, p. 75). [CB].
