Frühe Ausgabe des berühmten Catholicons, ein 1286 zusammengestelltes enzyklopädisches Wörterbuch, das besonders im 15. Jahrhundert weite Verbreitung fand.

Das Werk erschien erstmals 1460 und gehört zu den ersten gedruckten Büchern überhaupt. Bis 1500 erschienen über 20 Ausgaben. Vorliegend die zweite Ausgabe bei Koberger.

EINBAND: Zeitgenössischer Kalblederband über starken Holzdeckeln mit spätgotischer Blindprägung: Rahmenaufbau aus Streicheisenlinien, Felder gefüllt mit verschiedenen Einzelstempeln (Blüte, Lilie in Vase; Herz, Schriftband "jesusmaria", Fortuna); mit 2 Messingschließen. Folio. 42 : 29 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 2 großen Fleuronnée-Initialen und zahlreichen Lombarden alternierend in Rot und Blau. - KOLLATION: 322 nn. Bll. (st. 328; das erste Bl. weiß) - ZUSTAND: Fehlen die Bll. xx6 und yy1-4, ferner das letzte weiße. - Erstes Textbl. mit Schnittspur i. w. R., letzte 5 Bll. etw. gebräunt. Rücken unter Verwendung des alten Materials erneuert, ebenso die bewegl. Schließteile. Bezug des VDeckels trockenrissig. Ansonsten schönes, innen sauberes und breitrandiges Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Exlibris Eckhard Günther.

Early edition of the acknowledged Catholicon, an encyclopedic dictionary from 1286, in wide use in the 15th century. Contemp. calf over strong wooden boards with late Gothic blind-tooling: Richly blind-tooled boards (blossom, lily in vase; heart, letter band "jesusmaria", fortuna); with 2 brass clasps. With 2 large fleuronnée initials and many lombards alternating in red and blue. - Lacking leaves xx6 and yy1-4, as well as last blank leaf. - First text leaf with cut in blank margin, last 5 leaves somewhat browned. Spine and movable parts of clasp renewed using old material. Covering of front board dry-cracked. Else fine, inside clean and broad-margind copy.(R)
