Das Werk behandelt Operationen mit ganzen Zahlen, Brüche, zusammengesetzte Zahlen, merkantile Regeln, Währungen, kaufmännische Probleme, Tauschhandel, Fragen der Partnerschaft u. a. - Schöner und spielerischer Drucksatz mit zahlreichen Rechenbeispielen, die in das Textfeld eingebettet oder an den Rand gesetzt sind.

More than any other book it set a standard for the arithmetics of the succeeding century, and none of the early textbooks deserves more careful study" (Smith). - Dritte Ausgabe des 1484 erstmals erschienenen Werkes, ebenso selten wie die beiden vorhergehenden. Laut ISTC nur 1 Exemplar in Deutschland und 2 in den USA.
EINBAND: Pergamentband des 16. Jahrhunderts. 4to. 21,5 : 16 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit Holzschnitt-Initialen und schwarzgrundiger Holzschnitt-Druckermarke am Ende. - KOLLATION: 100 num. Bll. (recte 102). Got. Typen (Rotunda). 39-43 Zeilen. - ZUSTAND: Stellenw. gebräunt und etw. fleckig (wenige Bll. deutlicher), Bl. 45 mit alt ergänztem Randschaden, letztes Bl. am Fußsteg mit restaurierter Fehlstelle. Für ein Gebrauchsbuch sonst gutes Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Erstes Bl. mit hs. Besitzeintrag von Michael Squarzaficus (16. Jh.)

Early Renaissance manual für mercantile calculation, the second commercial arithmetic printed in Italy. First printed 1484, this copy is the third edition, very rare worldwide (only 2 copies in USA, 1 in France and 1 in Germany). With woodcut initials and woodcut printer's device at end. 16th cent. vellum. 100 numb. leaves (recte 102). - Partly browning and some staining (few leaves stronger), leaf 45 with early marginal repair, last leaf skilfully restored at lower margin. Still a good and genuine copy for the fact that it was a used book. Provenance: 16th cent. ownership entry "Michael Squarzaficus" on first page.(R)
